The iTaukei Land Trust Board (iTLTB) and Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited (FHCL) Joint Task Force has made significant progress in the verification of mahogany plantation lease boundaries in Vanua Levu. The update was presented to the FHCL General Manager during a briefing held at the FHCL headquarters on the 11 th of June, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this ongoing project, the Task Force has successfully completed its fieldwork exercise and is now finalizing the digitization and documentation of 65 mahogany plantation lease boundaries in Vanua Levu. This important work marks a key milestone in the process of verifying and mapping all mahogany plantation leases across both Vanua Levu and Viti
Levu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The digitization project, a commitment outlined under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by FHCL and iTLTB in February this year, is an essential step towards achieving Forest Certification for Fiji\u2019s mahogany plantations. The accurate mapping of lease boundaries ensures proper land management practices and supports the country\u2019s efforts in sustainable forestry development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The briefing was led by iTLTB General Manager Estates, Mr. Isoa Tuwai, and FHCL Task Force representative Mr. Pauliasi Liga, who presented the results of the Vanua Levu fieldwork and outlined plans for the next phase of the project in Viti Levu. Consultation work for the 57 leases in Viti Levu is scheduled to commence later this month, followed by the field survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The progress report on the completed work will be submitted by FHCL to the Ministry of Finance as part of the acquittal process for the Government Grant provided in this financial year to support the Mahogany Certification Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
