The Fiji Hardwood Corporation is looking to establish a timber processing plant to diversify its operations beyond simply selling logs.

However, our ability to do so is hindered by existing legislation, particularly the Mahogany Industry Development Act (MIDA), which confines us to log sales only.

Our General Manager, Semi Dranibaka, emphasizes the necessity of revisiting the legislation to pave the way for timber processing expansion.

The corporation is actively lobbying the government to amend the MIDA, proposing the creation of a taskforce to address these regulatory constraints and unlock opportunities in both local and international timber markets.

Fiji One News covered the story here.
