FHCL Responds to Family’s Call for Help After House Fire in Labasa
A partnership with PRS Timber Gold brings hope and a new beginning to a family who lost everything.

When a devastating fire destroyed Rajeshni Prasad’s home of six years in Vunimoli, Labasa, her family of six was left with nothing but ashes and a makeshift shelter made from burnt iron and cartons. With nowhere else to turn, the family reached out to PRS Timber Gold, a sawmill in Labasa, who then approached Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited (FHCL) for help.
FHCL responded without hesitation.

As part of our commitment to community and corporate social responsibility, FHCL supplied 15 cubic meters of mahogany logs to PRS Timber Gold to support the construction of a new home for the Prasad family. FHCL delivered the logs to the mill, where PRS Timber Gold generously processed the logs into timber—free of charge and handed it over to the affected family on the 7 th of July, 2025. This was to ensure the rebuilding process could begin swiftly. The family plans to start rebuilding early next month (August) and hopes to complete their new home before next year, restoring safety and stability to their lives.

“The Prasad family came to us in a time of great need,” said FHCL General Manager, Semi Dranibaka.
“We couldn’t turn away. This wasn’t just about supplying timber, it was about
restoring hope and giving a family the strength to start over. I’m proud of what we’ve done, and FHCL will continue to help wherever and whenever we can.”
This initiative has given the Prasad family not just the materials for a new house, but a foundation to rebuild their lives bringing back safety, stability, and dignity.

At FHCL, we believe we rise by lifting others. This effort is a reflection of what’s possible when people and organisations come together with compassion and purpose.
We extend our sincere thanks to PRS Timber Gold for their generosity in facilitating the connection and their shared commitment to making a real difference.
