FHCL Develops Standard Operating Procedure to Strengthen Operations
The Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited (FHCL) Inventory and Survey team convened on August 26–27, 2025, for a two-day workshop dedicated to formulating a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for its operations. The initiative marks a significant step in FHCL’s efforts to enhance efficiency, consistency, and accountability across its nationwide activities.

FHCL Operations Manager, Mr. Manasa Luvunakoro, emphasized the importance of the exercise, noting that the SOP will serve as a foundation for standardizing work processes.
“The purpose of the meeting was to draft an SOP. Having a clear and well-structured SOP is very important because it provides a consistent way of carrying out operational tasks,” Mr. Luvunakoro explained.
He further emphasized that a properly implemented SOP will ensure all employees follow the same procedures, which in turn will reduce errors, minimize variations, and improve the quality-of-service delivery.

“This will improve the quality of outputs and services. By having a clear procedure in place, we can reduce errors and variations––especially for teams that travel to different locations,” he said.
In addition to promoting uniformity, Mr. Luvunakoro highlighted that the SOP will enhance productivity by saving time for staff. With clearer guidelines and processes, employees will have greater confidence in their work, resulting in smoother operations and fewer delays.
The workshop brought together supervisors from different regions of the country, providing a platform to share experiences and align practices. According to Mr. Luvunakoro, this collaboration was a vital part of the exercise, ensuring that the SOP reflects the practical realities of field operations while setting a professional benchmark for the organization.

By the conclusion of the two-day session, participants had not only contributed to the development of the SOP but also strengthened their shared commitment to improving FHCL’s operational standards. Mr. Luvunakoro expressed confidence that the outcomes of the workshop will translate into long-term benefits for both the employees and the communities they serve.
The SOP initiative is part of FHCL’s broader vision to streamline its operations, improve accountability, and deliver services more effectively. As the organization continues to expand its work across Fiji, the establishment of a structured operational framework will play a critical role in achieving its goals.
