Galoa Station Leads the Way in Empowering Women Landowners

The Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited continues to lead the way in meaningful landowner engagement, with a strong focus on involving female landowners in its forestry operations.

At the forefront of this initiative is FHCL’s Galoa Station, which took a progressive step by employing women from the Serua Landowners Unit to plant and manage mahogany seedlings. This move reflects the corporation’s commitment to inclusive participation and shared responsibility in sustainable forestry.

Galoa Station Manager, Mr Satagi Nakuboulevu, said involving women from five villages under the Serua LOU was one of the best decisions made last year. He noted that the women successfully planted approximately 91,000 mahogany seedlings, contributing significantly to the station’s planting programme.

“This initiative forms part of FHCL’s broader effort to promote sustainability while safeguarding resources for future generations,” Mr Nakuboulevu said.

“Providing opportunities like this to the women of the Serua Landowners Unit allows our landowners to be actively involved in our growth as a corporation. The quality of their work speaks for itself. Their commitment and care were exceptional, and it was clear they took pride in what they did.”

Mr Nakuboulevu added that this would not be a one-off engagement, emphasizing that women landowners will continue to be involved in station operations whenever opportunities arise.

Through initiatives such as this, FHCL reinforces its commitment to inclusive development, strong landowner partnerships, and sustainable forestry practices across its operations.
