Assistant Minister Makes Historic Visit to FHCL Nadarivatu Station

Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited’s Nadarivatu Station marked a significant milestone on 9 December 2025 with its first-ever ministerial visit since the station’s establishment in Colo North.

The Honourable Assistant Minister for the Ministry of Enterprise, Mr. Sachida Nand, accompanied by the Ministry’s Acting Permanent Secretary, Ms. Laisa Bolalevu, was warmly welcomed with a traditional ceremony performed by FHCL staff and the landowning communities.

In his remarks, Mr. Nand expressed sincere appreciation for the hospitality extended by the station and local landowners. He acknowledged the commitment demonstrated by FHCL employees and encouraged the organisation to continue advancing the mahogany industry while upholding its responsibilities as a government-owned entity.

“We encourage Fiji Hardwood Corporation to strengthen shared decision-making, maintain transparent communication, and expand opportunities for training, employment and joint ventures that support economic empowerment,” Mr. Nand said.

He highlighted the international value of Fiji’s mahogany and stressed the need for sustainable management and modern technology to fully harness its potential. “To meet growing global demand, we must vigorously promote downstream processing—such as sawmilling and furniture production—to add value here at home.”

The Assistant Minister also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting landowners, particularly those interested in value-adding initiatives.

“The Government is committed to helping landowners participate in value-added activities so they can secure greater benefits from their resources,” he said. “We look forward to working closely with landowners who wish to enter this space.”

As part of his visit, Mr. Nand toured the mahogany plantation and planted a mahogany seedling to commemorate the historic occasion.

FHCL expressed its gratitude to the Assistant Minister for his visit and reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening partnerships with government and landowners. The corporation looks forward to hosting similar engagements in the future.
