FHCL at the 2024 Global Legal and Sustainable Timber Forum in Macao

Fiji Hardwood had the honor of participating in the 2024 Global Legal and Sustainable Timber Forum held in Macao, China, from September 11th to 12th. This event brought together around 700 representatives from forestry industries, professional foresters, academics, and civil society organizations across Asia, Africa, and South America. Fiji was the sole representative from the Oceania region.

The Fijian delegation was led by Honorable Minister Alitia Bainivalu, along with Acting Conservator of Forests Mr. Tevita Bulai, Director of Forest Products and Training Mr. Taniela Whippy, Executive Chairman of the Fiji Pine Group of Companies Mr. Rakuita Vakalalabure, and Fiji Hardwood’s own General Manager Mr. Semi Dranibaka. The team was further supported by Minister’s Personnel Secretary Mr. Tevita Vodivodi.

Honorable Minister Bainivalu delivered a keynote speech during the opening of the forum on the first day, setting the tone for Fiji’s contributions to sustainable forestry practices. Later that day, Acting Conservator of Forests Mr. Bulai presented on Fiji’s Online Licensing systems, highlighting the country’s commitment to innovation and transparency in the forestry sector.

On the second day of the forum, our General Manager, Mr. Semi Dranibaka, along with Executive Chairman Mr. Rakuita Vakalalabure, shared insights into the timber markets in Fiji, focusing on the development of pine and mahogany products.

The forum was an invaluable experience, offering a platform for FHCL to exchange knowledge and engage with global forestry leaders. It reinforced our commitment to sustainable and legal timber production, ensuring that Fiji remains a key player in the international market.
