FHCL Welcomes NG 2 Land Reversion, Reaffirms Commitment to Landowner Partnerships

Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited (FHCL) acknowledges the historic reversion of land known as Native Grant 2 (NG 2) to Mataqali Nadala, marking a significant milestone for the landowners of Nadala Village in the Tikina of Savatu, Province of Ba.

The return of the land after more than a century reflects the commitment of Government and key stakeholders, including the iTaukei Land Trust Board, to uphold and restore customary land ownership.

FHCL Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Semi Dranibaka recognizes the importance of this moment for Mataqali Nadala and acknowledges the processes undertaken to achieve this outcome. As the land transitions from State Land to Native Land, he emphasizes that the company respects the rights of landowners and the significance of this decision for present and future generations.

In line with Cabinet’s direction, areas of mahogany plantation within NG 2 will be subject to leasing arrangements to be facilitated through the iTaukei Land Trust Board. FHCL remains committed to engaging constructively with Mataqali Nadala and relevant stakeholders throughout this process.

As Fiji’s mahogany resource continues to play an important role in the forestry sector, FHCL’s focus remains on sustainable forest management practices that deliver long-term value while maintaining strong and respectful relationships with landowners.

This milestone presents an opportunity to strengthen collaboration, ensuring that forestry development continues to support both community interests and national growth.
