AIM
International Day of the Forest 2024 is marked internationally on 21 March 2024. It intends to bring issues to light of the value of forests and their various advantages in our society.

Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited (FHCL) is pleased to announce its support for the 2024 International Day of Forests, celebrated globally on March 21st. Under the theme

“Forest and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World,” FHCL reaffirms its commitment to sustainable forest management and environmental stewardship.

FHCL currently manages approximately 41,000 hectares of mature plantation-grown mahogany trees, a significant natural resource for Fiji. These trees, originating from South America, represent one of the four genuine mahogany species worldwide. FHCL is dedicated to ensuring the sustainable management of these mahogany resources to remain competitive in international timber markets while preserving the ecological balance of Fiji’s forests.

In alignment with this year’s International Day of Forests theme, FHCL is proud to introduce its innovative dashboard on the company’s website. This dashboard will provide up-to-date information on areas replanted, maintained, and harvested within FHCL-managed forests. It will also feature interactive maps, educational resources, and a platform for community engagement.

With this innovative initiative, FHCL is striving to attain several key objectives

  1. Enhanced Transparency: The dashboard will offer clear GIS data on FHCL’s forest activities, updated quarterly, fostering trust with stakeholders.
  2. Data-driven Decision-making: Utilizing real-time data to make informed decisions benefiting both operational efficiency and environmental conservation.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement: FHCL invites feedback from local communities and organizations through the dashboard, ensuring inclusivity and community involvement.
  4. Continuous Improvement: Monitoring performance and making necessary adjustments to continually progress towards sustainability goals.

The official launch of the innovative dashboard took place on March 26th, 2024, at 9:30am, at the Nukurua Forest Station in Tailevu. The event feature presentations by FHCL General Manager, including a briefing about the dashboard’s features and capabilities.

FHCL’s Board Chairman, accompanied by other board members, participated to the launch event, underscoring the company’s commitment to transparency and stakeholder engagement in sustainable forestry management.
